Weight Management- Strategies to Eating out while releasing excess weight!

Connect & Grow Magazine: Issue 14 October - November 2024

When it comes to being on a program to release excess weight, often people feel like they are missing out, that they cannot eat out of. If they go out and eat high-fat, high-calorie foods, they have blown their eating plan, and they may as well keep going!

However, this doesn't seem right; it does come down to choice and every moment of making a choice and decision versus one high-fat, high-calorie meal being the end of the weight release program.

Here are six powerful strategies for dining out while on your weight loss journey:

1.    Plan Ahead: Embrace the excitement of exploring menus ahead of time to discover healthier choices that inspire you.

2. Choose Wisely: Delight in grilled, steamed, or baked dishes, celebrating each nutritious bite while avoiding creamy or fried options.

3. Portion Control: Transform your dining experience by sharing a meal or asking for a half-portion, creating room for future culinary adventures.

4. Ask for what you require: Empower yourself by avoiding unnecessary calories; instead, turn to a wholesome appetiser for a fulfilling start, dressing on the side and choosing the foods you will enjoy

5. Stay Hydrated: Cherish the refreshing sensation of water as you hydrate and feel full, embracing each moment of your dining experience.

6. Mindful Eating: Cultivate the art of mindfulness as you savour every bite. This will allow you to recognise when you are satisfied and make your meal joyful.

With these strategies, you can enjoy the thrill of dining out while confidently pursuing your weight loss goals! It's also essential to ensure a positive and guilt-free attitude and approach. Eating out, especially as we approach the holiday seasons and more social events, gives you a guilt-free approach. Your choices are part of the bigger picture and action plan.

With more and more restaurants willing to make a special meal for people, especially if you ask ahead of your bookings, you will find there is always an option for you to choose the best meal for you that is nutritional and tasty.

Enjoy yourself!

When dining out, prioritise the company of those you are with over the food. Focus on the conversation and the good times; this way, the food becomes a secondary consideration to fulfil your nutritional needs rather than the main attraction.

Additionally, appreciate that you're not the one cooking and won't have to do the dishes—someone else is taking care of that for you!

You've got this. Relax, trust yourself to make the choices that are right for you, and have fun! Food can be fun, eating out can be enjoyable, and you can still achieve your weight-release goal.
