NDIS Participants - Living Life on YOUR terms

Connect and Grow Magazine - November 2023 - Edition 3

One of the things you will notice in your or your family member’s plan is about building capacity.

My question to you, is what does that mean to you and your life?

Is building capacity something that is important to you as a person who has an NDIS plan?

As the person who requires some support and everyone is different, it is important for you to feel heard and understood, especially with the business that provides services to you.

Understanding the different parts of your plan is important.

For those of you who are new to NDIS, allow me to share the basics of your plan; remember that everyone’s plan is different as every person is different.

You are a person with a unique personality, capabilities and challenges; you deserve to be treated with respect and dignity, empowered and encouraged.

To have the support you require, not be dictated to by those who support you.

Always remember that you can speak up for yourself, and if you are not happy with your service provider, you can always request someone different or look for a different provider. The NDIS encourages your choice and control. You also have the right to provide feedback to both the provider and the NDIS if you feel you are not being treated properly and are not happy with the services you are receiving.

Take your time when meeting service providers; notice if you match you and have the skills to provide the required services. This is YOUR life!
