Health and Disability Sector

Connect and Grow Magazine Edition 13 September - October 2024

Many changes will occur in the Health and Disability sector, especially the NDIS, and they will impact everyone.

The new legislation becomes law with the NDIS starting on October 3rd, 2024, and some things will change immediately: how plans are written, what an NDIS support service is, and how NDIS plan funding is monitored.

For Providers, announcements have been made regarding mandatory registration for providers of SIL services and Support coordination; what that registraton process looks like remains to be seen.

To get things together and continue to create the many changes the government has planned as part of the NDIS, the payment integrity team checks invoices, especially those of the sole traders, STA services, and SIL providers. Providers are finding that many of their invoices are declined, and they cannot pay their staff, which leaves them in a situation where they have to keep running their business without revenue. Some businesses have shared with me that they have had to close their doors after waiting over six months for payment, and the invoices declined; the ripple impact leaves the person requiring the services with a new provider.

It is important as a business owner to ensure your business meets compliances as a business and as a service provider of NDIS services; these are two sets of different compliances.

Those with an NDIS plan will be impacted the most initially and then business secondarily, as those with a plan may find that some services are no longer part of their plan. However, it is unclear if those services will stop being funded from the 3rd of October or in their next plan.

You can read the draft list of NDIS supports here: Draft NDIS support list

Please discuss with your LAC, Support coordinator and planner if you have any concerns about your plan; asking on social media will not always get you the most accurate answer for your specific circumstances.

During this transition period, it is important to take the time to understand what is required of you. Everyone experiences uncertainty.

Always be careful where you get your information, and do some research where possible.

For providers, remember that the NDIS cannot give you business or legal advice; there are other places to get that information, such as the business legal obligations website. Remember that you are a business providing services to a person with an NDIS plan.

The investment is $99.00, including GST.
