Feature Article- Embracing Uniqueness

Connect and Grow Magazine - April 2024 - Edition 8

Be who you are and know you do NOT have to fit in; it’s okay to be different!

When you embrace who you are, you can be true to yourself!

What does it mean to you to be Unique?

What does it mean to be you?

Each of us has our own incredible strengths and traits that bring success into our lives. When you know who you are and what is right for you, you can make informed decisions about your life.

Taking some time for self-reflection is a great way to identify what makes you, you, what makes you happy and what your strengths are.

Now may be a great time to stop and reflect on a few questions.

When you do this, sit in a quiet place where you will not be disturbed.

Self-Reflection

When you look in the mirror what you do you see?

What do you love about the person you see in the mirror?

What emotions and thoughts come to mind when you look at your reflection in the mirror?

Do you struggle to look at yourself in the mirror for more than a couple of minutes?

Each of these questions and the answers that you have are giving you insights into how comfortable you are with who you are.

Your answers and responses are okay!

It is important always to be kind to yourself when doing an exercise like this. Some people are uncomfortable looking at their reflection in the mirror for a long time, which is okay. The goal is to identify how you feel about yourself and what you see.

What we see and believe about ourselves always differs from how others see us.

When you can look in the mirror and like what you see, you are one step closer to living a life based on trusting yourself.

Life is a thrilling journey, and we have the choice to embark on it as our authentic selves or to navigate it based on the beliefs of others. The latter path may leave us perpetually feeling inadequate.

Have you ever had that experience where no matter what you do, someone is there telling you you could do better? Could it be done better in a partner, a house, or how you have your hair? Trying to please those people and at what cost to your overall happiness is exhausting.

Did you know that by living your life doing your best to please others, your health will eventually suffer as your body responds to the stress of the situation? Being true to yourself is essential, and not everyone will accept; however, you are the main person who can make you happy!

What makes you happy? How often do you do what makes you happy?

Do you permit yourself to dress the way that makes you happy and have your hair the way you like it? Do you choose the foods that satisfy you and suit your body?

Taking care of yourself and expressing yourself the way you enjoy is one of the best gifts you can give yourself.

Give yourself permission to shine brightly and be happy. Be present in the moment!

Take your time to explore what makes you happy, and know that your people will find you. At the right time, you will find that place where you are included by being true to yourself. We can all tell when someone is not being true to who they are and trying too hard to fit in. The more relaxed you are and the more true to yourself, the easier it is to find and be part of the right community for you!

Be you and celebrate you!
